Moving constituents to bcc

Filed under: Alameda — Lauren Do @ 6:03 am

Turn away if you are too fragile to read criticisms of Trish Spencer.

As I mentioned after the last City Council I put in some PRA requests based on some of Trish Spencer’s Council Referrals.  You see Trish Spencer made it seem like she has already exhausted all remedies before placing the Council Referral.  Like she had actually done work and staff was non responsive and, therefore, she needed to provide some sunshine to disinfect the lack of attention given to constituent issues by staff.

The one closed PRA request involved Trish Spencer’s referral about RV parking.  She was not satisfied with the response by City staff regarding her inquires about Alameda’s policies about RV parking.

Honestly it appears as though the genesis of this PRA was due to the proliferation of RV parking at Alameda Point which appeared to be folks who did not have permanent addresses more than any real concern about enforcement differences from one end of the island to the other.

So I asked:

At the 1/4/22 meeting, Councilmember Trish Spencer indicated that she “communicated” with City Staff regarding the City’s policy on RV parking. I would like to request all communications that are available between CM Trish Spencer and City Staff including all emails and text messages.

And here’s what I got.

Basically the only emails that went back and forth between Trish Spencer and staff was her asking to place the referral on the agenda.  And this text exchange with the City Manager with a photo from, it looks like, San Leandro with grammatically incorrect signs declaring that RVs should not park wherever it was she took the photo.  But Trish Spencer didn’t text she just sent the photo, clearly whatever information shared was via phone.

It seems like Trish Spencer really, really, really doesn’t want her communications to be in writing which is both very savvy from the standpoint that she’ll never have her records disclosed in a PRA but also kinda shady in that she never leaves a paper trail as to what information she is seeking or what information has been given to her.  It allows her to not be a hypocrite or it just shows that she is uninterested in actually doing any meaningful research prior to City Council meetings.

I don’t know why the City Council should even entertain any of her Referrals if she cannot demonstrate a good faith effort that she attempted to get the questions answered prior to throwing up a Council Referral in a clear abuse of the process.

  1. Well I am getting old and cranky, but it sure is a tip off in my opinion that when a fellow council member (coughTony) has to start every one of the conversations on her referrals with ‘ … this is a valid refer …. ‘ one should know the item is just political grandstanding.

It is just a seems to me to be a continued long pattern of ‘look I am working hard for you because I ask an easily found answer up on the Council (televised) meeting ….’

2022 will be a interesting year!!

  2. It’s Neptune Dr, right at the entrance to Oyster Bay in San Leandro. Apparently, she scared this guy.

  3. Based on Spencer’s years of documented incompetence – clearly and consistently demonstrated on the AUSD Board of Trustees long before she became one of Alameda’s least effective mayors – I am still amazed that anyone would ever be able to justify supporting or voting for her.

    • She’s our version of Sarah Palin, and my neighborhood is her base. My neighbors and friends are generally intelligent liberals, but the majority like her.
