Most of you probably don’t have kids in Elementary School at AUSD any longer, I certainly don’t, nonetheless I’m fascinated by the work being done at the district level to implement a student centered master schedule for Elementary students
From the staff report:

Below is a sample of how the schedule would work. It’s not as though it changes the day significantly for students but what does change is alignment among grade sets so that, if necessary, students can move between grade levels for more targeted and grade appropriate instruction because, look, every students learns differently and at different paces. Eventually research says they all, mostly, catch up at some point but depending on whether or not the student attended preschool or has an undiagnosed learning difference the levels students, particularly in elementary are going to vary pretty widely.

This is important work that I’m really glad the district is tackling. For high and middle schools the task seems more daunting because of the addition of electives. I’l be curious to see if and how this is handled.
Why does it start so damn early? My kid just does not naturally wake up that early! And she’s getting ten hours of sleep.

Parent and substitute teacher here. I’m a big fan of the new schedule, although I do understand that having 12:10 dismissal every Wednesday is going to be a hardship for many parents. Fortunately, there are now new aftercare options.
