New supe

It looks like we have a new elected member of the Board of supervisors now that Rebecca Kaplan has conceded the race to Lena Tam:

This was an interesting race because of how much ground Lena Tam made up between June and November. This was the result in June with Rebecca Kaplan comfortably in the lead:

And then today:

Even though in June Lena Tam lost a few Alameda precincts, this time around she won every Alameda precinct:

It looks like Lena Tam made a huge amount of progress in San Leandro and on the West End of Alameda to help secure the victory which was, apparently, achieved through boots on the ground door to door campaign. Which, as I’ve said before, is the way to win in Alameda and beyond. This would definitely be an interesting race to study given in comparison to the District Attorney race where it looks like Pamela Price may pull off a victory. Regardless of the outcome of the final race, the BOS 3rd District went for Pamela Price substantially with the exception of Bay Farm and some San Leandro precincts:

So you’re looking at an overall more progressive demographic in the 3rd district and Rebecca Kaplan was more certainly positioned as the more progressive candidate in the 3rd district race. The fact that whatever was done by the Lena Tam campaign could overcome the deficit and the more conservative positioning should be studied by future candidates.

  1. California Apartment Association spent a ton of money running nonstop commercials that stoked fears about rising crime to help get Tam elected.

Clearly they believe Tam will end Alameda County’s eviction moratorium and be a more landlord friendly supervisor.
