Council members, public speakers: same, same

Filed under: Alameda — Lauren Do @ 6:02 am

I know I often wonder about the utility of Tony Daysog on the City Council. I often wonder why he wants to even be there considering that he abstains on as many votes as he can and seems to not fully understand what’s going on half the time, but it wasn’t until yesterday’s meeting until I understood that this man thinks that this job is something that it is not. The shame of it all is that some voters (not me) keep re-electing him to the City Council; a position that he clearly articulated that he does not understand on Tuesday night. So I don’t blame Tony Daysog for being a shitty City Council member, I blame the voters for being swayed by his every four years “aw shucks” routine.

I’m going to run these videos backwards because it’s important — if you don’t know this and you assume that Tony Daysog is correct, which you should never assume — to understand the actual legal position of the City Attorney is on this topic.

For those who don’t want to watch, here’s the important bit:

Given that the council broadly approves policies across the city, on balance, I think,
you would not be violating the charter by continuing this approach.

This is in response to Tony “give public safety whatever they want” Daysog who starts spouting off charter sections which he claims demonstrated that the City Council is no different than the Trish Spencer fan speakers who come and speak about the dangers of sanctuary cities or people who don’t understand what a second reading is on the consent calendar. I mean, if that’s how Tony Daysog feels about the duties of City Council members then why waste hours and hours sitting on the dais when you can effect just as much change by dialing in for 3 minutes at a pop?

And honestly, if that is how Tony Daysog feels, I cannot wait until another department asks for the ability to shape policy without having to get Council approval first. This is essentially what John Knox White says which I’m sure Tony Daysog will consistently follow when other department heads come to let the Council know they’ll be handling policy all by themselves because going to the City Council is simply too time consuming.

  1. Ay dios mio. Tony is the largest imbecile to ever sit on a dais. And we’re going to sorely miss Council Member Knox White.

    • Are you counting Joe Biden? Or is an impending nuclear war and a crashing economy not important to you?

      • This must get incredibly boring for you. Have you considered joining “truth” social instead?

  2. Very good description of Daysog. I just lightly follow Alameda politics and whenever I have heard him speak I always wonder why he is there. He seems so disconnected and unprepared.

    • It was even worse before. He just hasn’t figured out how to keep playing Solitaire and do Zoom at the same time yet.
