Graphics design is my passion

Filed under: Alameda — Lauren Do @ 6:04 am

Looks this is going to be a super shallow post, I’m not going to sugar coat it. While I do think that the cost for running in local elections have gotten pretty expensive, there’s really no excuse for bad graphic design though. Like, you can contract with someone on Upwork for $30 for a campaign logo (seriously you can, I just looked it up) if you don’t want to shell out for pricey campaign consultants and their graphics folks. Because we, collectively as a community, should not be subjected to this level of MS Paint work

Also, maybe shave before taking your campaign photos? Or grow out the beard entirely? Maybe the indecisive facial hair is part of the “balance” shtick. I dunno.

  1. To be fair, if they were done by the same “designer” of the No on B signs, it’s a vast improvement!

  2. You’re right. Paul B needs some work on marketing.

    Have you seen Ashcraft’s?

    ASHCRAFT FOR ALAMEDA

MORE CRIME, MORE CONGESTION MORE HOMELESS!

    or Oddie’s?

  3. “Indecisive facial hair…” Here’s hoping I don’t have to purchase a new keyboard after spitting out my morning coffee on htis one.

    • I think that’s uncalled for. While I don’t agree with Paul politically and don’t think he’s ready for prime time, he doesn’t deserve personal attacks either. From all accounts, he seems like a decent enough bloke. He’s running for councilmember of Bay Farm and not for Alameda (does he even know or care what issues affect West End Alameda?), and that alone is enough to not vote for him.

      • Ya, in the first five comments we have childish snarky comments about Paul as well as Ashcroft and Oddie. It’s annoying, like sitting next to somebody in church who has gas.

Aren’t all the council seats for all Alameda?

  5. Interesting you brought up the advertising, Lauren. In his recent appearance in the LWV forum, Paul mentioned that he had benefited from donations to his campaign that enabled him to pay the ballot statement fees ($4,000). He has also been doing a lot of printing (ads, signs, etc.) and social media advertising. None of this is cheap. As of today, PaulB has not filed any campaign forms, and most significantly, has not filed a 24hour contribution report, meaning that he has not gotten any donations to his campaign (including money he himself has contributed to the expenses) that have amounted to over $1,000. Either he is very good at grass roots fundraising, or he is trying to dodge having to disclose support this early in the campaign by keeping donations just below the $1,000 mark, or he doesn’t have a clue about his legal requirements around campaign reporting. If it the later, and he comes out with some type of “oops, my bad, I’m new to this” statement, then I also hope that statement includes “clearly I am not yet qualified to take on a role as important as this, I drop out.”

  6. Personally, I don’t see anything particularly wrong with the signs although he should have picked a different headshot picture. The hair on his lower lip looks like a fungus is growing on it and he looks bored in the picture. He needs a pic with some pizzazz. I don’t intend to vote for him because I am voting for Spindiesel favorites Ashcroft and Oddie, Jensen or Groce.
