National Park Service. National Register Bulletin 16A~ How to Complete the National Register Form. 2021

Not sure why this is here since it doesn’t seem to matter if it’s used at all. Remember though the person who helped revised this bulletin also said the Maritime School no longer contained sufficient integrity but SHPO/SHRC doesn’t care what subject matter experts think, only what feels good.

National Park Service. Application to National Register. National Historic Register, Patrick Rodgers Farm, 1991. 315 Cortsen Rd. Pleasant Hill, CA. 1991.

I’ve written about this here and here. I don’t know why it’s still here.

Naval Undersea Warfare Center. Fort Trumbull: Ramparts, Subs and Sonar. 2021.

There are some references in the nomination to Fort Trumbull having the same curriculum as Alameda. It’s an interesting pamphlet but nothing that sheds new light on the Alameda location itself.

Neptune. Vol 2, No. 3, July 10, 1943.Official magazine of the USMS Officers’ School.

This was a fun bit of casual racism from the official magazine:

Neptune. Vol. 2, No. 7, Sept. 10 1943.Official magazine of the USMS Officers’ School.

More super fun casual racism:

Neptune. Vol. 4, No. 6. Nov. 1945. Official magazine of the USMS Officers’ School.

Nothing in here just some day in the life snapshots.

  1. You keep trying to prove a negative – the lack of historical legacy, yet you’ve spent 14 columns so far and reviewed hundreds of articles about the Merchant Marine School all proclaiming its importance to the community and to producing merchant marine officers and engineers for two wars and the Cold War- one of only two schools in the country and designed by a famous architect according to the actual blueprints.

The establishment will eventually yield to local and state political pressure from the Homeless Industrial Complex, and the Wellness Center may proceed, but I don’t think your columns objectively prove what you assert they do.

    • “Designed by a famous architect”? That is bull. Are you Carmen Reid? We know for a fact that the school was designed by military engineers in Washington DC. To deny the accomplishment of our military and misattribute their work to two architects, one who only designed a boiler room that has long since been dismantled and another who only worked as a supervising architect but none of the initial or final designs for the extent buildings, is stealing valor. Are you sure you want to be doing that?

    • Well, one thing that has been proven is what an embarrassing, bad faith, middle-school C- book report level sack of shit the nomination document is.
