Appetite for construction

A reminder that this guy

is still suing the Alameda Unified School District over the parcel tax. And that the School Board is testing the political waters to see if Alameda can stomach another bond.

Overall the District has strong ratings:

And people seem to agree that we need to continue funding schools even if it means higher taxes:

The sentiment about taxes has stayed largely consistent over time:

Based on the slides it doesn’t appear that there is a lot of difference between a June 2022 and November 2022 election. But I feel like the more turnout the better for anything dealing with raising taxes.

  2. Leland is an outlier, and a red herring argument.

AUSD must have sampled the 50% of Americans who pay no taxes and/or take more in benefits than they pay. Consumer confidence tumbled for the third month in a row, and is the lowest since February..Only 20% expect things to get better. 1/3 of California businesses have closed. Ca. has the highest income tax rate in the nation. The City of Alameda has frozen rent increases and evictions for those who do pay taxes.

AUSD – Let’s float another school bond!

    • I’m not sure if Observer is Carmen Reid but… Noticed how you cherry-picked “income tax rate” to paint California in an unfavorable light? Please combine ALL taxes – property tax, sales tax, income tax – California is very much middle of the pack percentage-wise compared to other states for middle class families. Even Florida’s and Texas’ are higher. These parcel taxes are the unfortunate result of Prop 13, which has kept property taxes unreasonably low for long-time homeowners, many of whom are paying only $3,000 on their $2 million homes.

Had Prop 15 passed last year, we probably wouldn’t even be having this conversation.

    • I love it … another alternate facts “Observer” , just make fake facts up to spew hatred. Got a reliable source for “… 1/3 of California businesses have closed.”
If so I’ll post an apology for saying you make up facts.

  3. What an unspeakable man. Didn’t he pal around with the unfortunate who tried to recall Rob Bonita from the city council? Precursors to the Alameda Concerned Citizens Taskforce?
