Make up class

Filed under: Alameda — Lauren Do @ 6:00 am

Tonight’s very special episode of the City Council will cover issues that have been pushed for several meeting. The big one is the issue of the tank.

This should take up a lot of time because there has been a recent push by the “cops don’t need any oversight” crowd that this tank is super duper important. I saw a post on one of the Facebook groups about this and it came from the same person who wrote to the City Council that crime was so bad that property values were dropping which is so patently untrue that I don’t know how people don’t feel ashamed for getting basic information wrong.

The City Manager is recommending that the City retain the tank even though the vote last summer was to sell.

There’s also the referral item that shows that Tony Daysog either doesn’t understand how RHNA and the Housing Element certification process works or he doesn’t care. And, at this point, it doesn’t really matter anyway but it is kind of a pattern with Tony Daysog that he wants to plow through and do what he thinks will stop as much development as possible without considering the repercussions until there is a legal threat, then the City should revisit their decision.

Like he did it here in 2017:

Then there are some assorted referrals from Trish Spencer and Tony Daysog (by the way Trish Spencer has three NEW referrals on the next City Council agenda in addition to the ones on this agenda which is one too many referrals). It feels like the referral process is being used in lieu of just sending an email to staff with a question and request for response, but this is nothing new from Trish Spencer.

Anyway, following along on #alamtg on Twitter makes watching the meeting live bearable.

  1. George Floyd riots cost about $2 billion with up to 700 officers injured nation wide.

Trial of Officer Chauvin taking place now. The defense contends that the drugs in Floyd’s system killed him and that Chauvin’s knee hold was part of his training.

    We might need the tank.

    • Or maybe just maybe… if police stopped wholesale murdering Black people (not to mention physically detaining them for exercising in the street), anonymous yahoos on blogs wouldn’t shitpost about our boring little suburb needing a fucking tank.

  2. It doesn’t have a turret, it doesn’t have a gun, it doesn’t have a tracked drive. It’s not a tank. It’s an ERV.
