Rumble in the virtual jungle

Filed under: Alameda — Lauren Do @ 6:09 am

The one thing that has been great about COVID-19 is that all of these election season events which would have normally required a person to schlep out to some meeting late at night involving street clothes and brushed hair are now online. Not only are they online but they’re also video optional or they don’t even want your video on, even better.

Tonight the Democratic Club will hold their endorsement meeting on Measure Z (you can register here for it). You can listen to the meeting even if you are not a member of the Democratic Club. You can become a member that night if you like, but you cannot vote for or against endorsement unless you are a member and you’ve attended at least two Democratic Club meetings.

Speaking for the yes on Measure Z side will be Vice Mayor John Knox and speaking for the no on Measure Z side will be Paul Foreman of the very long named PAC which is supporting not one, not two, but three City Council candidates for two spots.

Given Paul Foreman’s most recent attempts at rationalizing why we still need a law which is, technically, illegal under state law, it feels like the match up is a bit uneven.

Me? I’m so looking forward to this match up both at this meeting and at the Chamber of Commerce event in the near future. I plan on making some popcorn and throwing this up on the big TV for the full experience.

  1. Don’t buy too much popcorn. There is zero chance the Dem Club will do anything other than what Bonta ordered them to do while our poorly run state burns and power outages continue….

Will the Dem Club also endorse Prop 16 repealing a ban on affirmative action and thereby denying thousands of Asian Americans a chance to go to college? Or is the answer to racial discrimination more racial discrimination?

And, you “forgot” to mention President Trump was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize…

#BREAKING: @realDonaldTrump was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for his hand in reaching the #IsraelUAEDeal.

    • I’m speechless,!!!!!

  2. It hard to believe that a man who put children in cages, and separated them from their mothers is being considered for the Nobel Peace Prize.

    Comment by Karen Bey — September 9, 2020 @ 9:28 am

    • In a similar way to a Grand Jury indicting a ham sandwich, damn near anyone can be nominated for a Nobel. There is no way he’s being “considered,” though. If the Nobel committee even mentions his name it will be to roll their eyes at the thought.

      Here’s who can nominate:,previous%20Nobel%20Peace%20Prize%20Laureates%3B

      • But oddly people still think he’s deserving of a Nobel Peace Prize after everything he’s done — forgot to mention because of his mis-handling of the pandemic he has caused the death of over 180,000 people.

        • There’s a car in my Central Alameda neighborhood with a bumper sticker that reads, “Hillary Lied and Four Americans Died.” *Four* Americans!! How quaint.

          Comment by trow125 — September 9, 2020 @ 11:10 am

    • That was President Obama who built those cages and filled them up. And do you recall why President Obama won the Nobel Prize? No one really knows, except he launched an attack on a Middle East hospital on the same day he won the prize.

Michelle Obama also lied about this common Dem talking point.

“what she did not say is that the very same “cages” were built and used in her husband’s administration, for the same purpose of holding migrant kids temporarily.

A look at her remark in the keynote address at the opening night of the remote Democratic National Convention:

MICHELLE OBAMA, on Americans: “They watch in horror as children are torn from their families and thrown into cages.”

THE FACTS: The reference to cages is misleading and a matter that Democrats have persistently distorted.

Trump used facilities that were built during the Obama-Biden administration to house children at the border. They are chain-link enclosures inside border facilities where migrants were temporarily housed, separated by sex and age.”

      • Does Fox News make you stupid, or does being stupid make you watch Fox News?

      • Obama did start the detention centers, I was outraged when I found out about this during Obamas term.

  3. And that he called soldiers who fought and died in service, suckers and losers — the timing is suspect!

    Comment by Karen Bey — September 9, 2020 @ 9:34 am

    • Sorry Karen -another lie from four “anonymous” sources….

This from Bolton, a known Trump hater who was actually there.

‘According to what that article said, the president made disparaging remarks about soldiers and people buried in the cemetery in connection with the decision for him not to go to the ceremony that was planned that afternoon, and that was simply false,’ Bolton said during the interview.

‘I don’t know who told the author that, but that was false.’

He added that Trump had cancelled the trip to the cemetery because of the weather rather than out of any disdain for the fallen soldiers.

‘The main issue was whether or not weather conditions permitted the president to go out to the cemetery,’ the former national security adviser claimed.

      Comment by Nowyouknow — September 9, 2020 @ 6:19 pm

      • Do you think the weather would have stopped the soldiers from landing in Normandy? Worried about their hair?

        Comment by Yes we know — September 10, 2020 @ 7:03 am

  4. again, why discuss this with a FOX news troll.???

    • C’mon man…since 8 years of war under President Obama, President Trump has:

      1) de-escalated North/South Korea
      2) destroyed ISIS
      3) untied the Syria/Turkey/Kurd Gordian knot
      4) got the Israel/UAE deal-first Middle East Peace deal in 26 years
      5) got the Serbia Kosovo deal
      6) is ending the Iraq/Afghan wars
      7) brought home American hostages all over the world

Now post your list for Biden’s foreign policy achievements:

      • And lied to the American people about the severity of the deadly Covid virus. We’re closing in on 200K people dead due to Covid. Bob Woodward has a tape with the President admitting he purposely mis-lead the American people about Covid. He knew all along it was very dangerous as far back as early February — but he called it a hoax, and continues to mock people who wear a mask!

  5. I am not going to reply point by point to nowyouknow, but I just want to say, I was eligible to vote at the last Democratic Club event, which for endorsement of the Board of Education candidates. The Bonta endorsed candidate did NOT get the club endorsement. In fact we are so blessed with a plethora of great candidates that want to run for Board of Ed in this very difficult for schools year, that NO ONE won the endorsement.

  6. In February 7th taped interview with Bob Woodward.

Woodward: And so, what was President Xi saying yesterday?

Trump: Oh, we were talking mostly about the uh, the virus. And I think he’s going to have it in good shape, but you know, it’s a very tricky situation. It’s –

    Woodward: Indeed it is.

Trump: It goes through air, Bob. That’s always tougher than the touch. You know, the touch, you don’t have to touch things. Right? But the air, you just breathe the air and that’s how it’s passed… And so, that’s a very tricky one. That’s a very delicate one. It’s also more deadly than your – you know, your, even your strenuous flus. You know, people don’t realize, we lose 25,000, 30,000 people a year here. Who would ever think that, right?

    Then in early March

On Monday, when Trump tweeted that the coronavirus was not as perilous as the flu, he said, “So last year 37,000 Americans died from the common Flu. It averages between 27,000 and 70,000 per year. Nothing is shut down, life & the economy go on. At this moment there are 546 confirmed cases of CoronaVirus, with 22 deaths. Think about that!”

    Then today

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump was asked whether he misled the country by publicly downplaying the threat of the virus.

“Well, I think if you said ‘in order to reduce panic,’ perhaps that’s so,” Trump said. “The fact is I’m a cheerleader for this country. I love our country, and I don’t want people to be frightened. I don’t want to create panic, and certainly I’m not going to drive this country or the world into a frenzy. We want to show confidence. We want to show strength.”

  7. Paul Foreman during the CADC tonight: “I live in a noncompliant condo, so it’s not going to affect me.” And that, friends, is the No on Z value in a nutshell: “I got mine.”

    Comment by JRB — September 9, 2020 @ 9:44 pm

  8. Paul Foreman referring to people who would likely want multifamily housing:”Invaders”. Disgusting.
