What’s new pussycat?

Filed under: Alameda — Lauren Do @ 6:01 am

C’mon you didn’t actually think that I’d let this one slide without any discussion at all right?

So last Friday twitter user TheBananaThug posted this:

Which I thought had to be fake.  I mean, it had to.  I even started comparing the fonts to see if maybe the cat text was a different text.  Turns out this was all so not fake but the cat text only last for a heartbeat, but not before it was screen grabbed:

There was an “under construction” landing page up for most of the day until boring lorem ipsum text was found to replace the cat text.  Which is still populating the “Topic” section of Trish Spencer’s platform page.  The embarrassing thing is not so much the should-have-been-cute-and-funny-cat-ipsum-but-just-ended-up-being-super-creepy thing but that since Friday there has just been placeholder text for Trish Spencer’s campaign website.  A woman who just stepped off the Council not two years ago couldn’t be bothered to draft up language to cover her platform of today.

The one major change between Friday and today (in addition to removing the cat ipsum) is that there are now no endorsements on Trish Spencer’s website.  On Friday there were a few, I can’t remember specific names but I definitely remember that there were endorsements there.  Today the endorsement page (which populates a module on the front page) only reads this:

But this whole episode has led to the best graphic to come out of the Alameda campaign sign universe since that one guy made Halloween flavored campaign signs based on real campaign signs, the funny joke was that Beverly Johnson running for City Council after having been termed out as Mayor was so scary that no modification was needed for that one.  FYI, Beverly Johnson is going to making a bit of a political comeback for this election so stay tuned.

  1. The people decided trish wasn’t their choice anymore 2 years ago. Pandering to the cat fetish crowd isn’t going to reverse that decision.

  2. Not surprised that Trish has not yet added her platform. As mayor, she was much more in love with the image of being mayor rather than actually doing anything that would improve the lives of those who lived here.

She took and she took and she took…(hmm…did she ever pay back that $100 she owed the taxpayers?).

She was all for the (“is she drunk?”) dancing like a crazy person (without getting arrested!) during the Fourth of July Parade, but having put in no effort to the planning (except for shutting down the streets an hour earlier than normal so she could run in the 5K and get back in time to shower and change before the parade).

The “Just say No to Everything” mayor who held the city council meetings hostage like a kid who doesn’t want to go to bed.

She should never be politically forgiven for her campaign against the Wellness Center.

  3. She and her friend got in my pregnant friend’s face to tell her that her baby would step on needles at Crown Beach – during the Wellness Center war, of course. It was deplorable.

  4. Since Trish Spencer won’t share her platform and voting record, let me help out here:

      • Built by Gillico, which, if I’m not mistaken, is the company of Adam Gillett, who ran a splendidly entertaining car-crash of a campaign back during the financial crisis. Hopefully for Trish, she made a sober decision.

    • Should be an easy prosecution. You don’t get off with a defense along the lines of, “well, yes, I possessed it, and took and oath under it, but I never read it!”
