National Horror Story: this is real life

Filed under: Alameda — Lauren Do @ 6:03 am

I mean, this is supposed to be the leader of this country and he can’t read words off a TelePrompter correctly?

From NY Magazine:

What Trump said: “We will be suspending all travel from Europe to the United States for the next 30 days. The new rules will go into effect Friday at midnight. There will be exemptions for Americans who have undergone appropriate screenings.”

In reality: The travel restrictions don’t apply to “American citizens or legal permanent residents or their families,” tweeted Ken Cuccinelli, the acting deputy secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, shortly after Trump’s speech. But that distinction was not at all clear from Trump’s speech, leading to mass confusion for American travelers in Europe who were under the impression that if they didn’t return home by Friday, they’d be stuck on the continent for the next month.

What Trump said: “These prohibitions will not only apply to the tremendous amount of trade and cargo, but various other things as we get approval. Anything coming from Europe to the United States is what we are discussing.”

In reality: “The restriction stops people not goods,” Trump tweeted roughly an hour after going off the air. It’s a good thing, too, because for the 60 minutes during which it seemed as if trade with Europe would be suspended, futures markets were reeling.

What Trump said: “Earlier this week I met with the leaders of the health-insurance industry who have agreed to waive all co-payments for coronavirus treatments.”

In reality: Co-payments for coronavirus testing, not treatments, have been suspended, a spokesperson for the lobbying group America’s Health Insurance Plans said.

Seriously, any competent person at this point would be better than what we have now.  Bernie or Biden, it can only get better from the historic low point.

  2. What was incompetent, dangerous and irresponsible was the Chinese Communist Party hiding the initial October outbreak, jailing whistleblowers and blocking American investigators from traveling to Wuhan to assess the disease, while lying about it coming from a live animal market when it appears the Covid 19 virus escaped (or was released) from a government lab. There’s much more to this story to come.

In the meantime, let’s all work together to stem the spread of this virus instead of politicizing it.

    • Translation: Let’s politicize this virus in a vain to keep the heat off my favorite prevaricating politician, but let’s work together instead of politicizing it.

        • what was incompetent, dangerous and irresponsible was our president going on national T.V. and saying everything was fine only one or two cases and they will probably go away. nothing to see here folks. that’s what I call incompetent, dangerous and irresponsible. the president is the main character in the politicizing of this pandemic. go talk to him.

    • You’re on the right track Now….

China has been attempting to rule the planet since Mao’s Great Leap Forward in China in 1949. China owns a good portion of Africa and there are a multitude of countries around the planet that are in debt up to their necks to China. Anyone who thinks this virus breakout was not orchestrated purposely by China doesn’t know the history of the Chinese Communist party.

I’ve been on the ground in China (Shanghai and Beijing and a couple of other smaller cities). Just getting a Visa to visit China meant documenting to them every thing you’ve done in your life. Including your time (if any) spent in the military service. Once we (my wife and I) arrived in China (as a civilian) we were accompanied by a watcher who followed us wordlessly everywhere we went.

This “watching” of us may have been partly because I had been up and down China’s coastal waters around 50 plus times in and out of China’s airspace (while in the Navy P3 Squadron stationed in Okinawa) recording their radar capabilities.

Anyway, I don’t believe anything China does is not part of a world-wide scheme to rule it.

By the way, China owns Biden, he made a restaurant in Beijing famous by eating there.

      • Jack not to discount what you are saying but Adolfo went to China 5 months ago and didn’t have to fill out any paperwork. He made his reservations and left 3 days later.

        • You talking about Adolfo the fashion designer? Was he ever in the military?

        • Weeks ago, people fled China to dodge the new coronavirus. Now it has flipped. People are headed to China because they believe it is the safest place in the world.

          Of course it is.

          Comment by Jack — March 16, 2020 @ 8:05 am

        • Jack, Adolfo int a fashion designer, not in the not in the military either, he is a doctor.

  3. So Nowyouknow you are giving Trump and the admin a pass on their work?
Great Scot, some group has reduced funding and resources to the CDC and National Health , ignores science and allows the State Department to make decisions on who can travel against doctors orders.

Yes, Trump is a fantastic leader!

    Comment by Ron Mooney — March 13, 2020 @ 8:11 am

    • Just read that a staggering 43% of Americans *approve* of the way Trump is handling the coronavirus, so Nowyouknow has a lot of company (though probably not very many of those folks live here in Alameda).

  4. Great news on testing! Roche has received emergency FDA approval of their coronavirus tests. They will be able to provide millions of tests a month, and the tests will be able to provide results in 3 1/2 hours.

Roche was the first company to supply tests to diagnose the coronavirus in China.

    Comment by Karen Bey — March 13, 2020 @ 8:17 am

    • Yes.Karen, and Roche is a great company. I don’t understand why Roche stock isn’t rising right now.

  5. Let’s hope this is a minor figment of Twitter and not a sincere belief (at least not in numbers) that between as between Biden and Trump it doesn’t matter who wins
