National Horror Story: make it stop

Filed under: Alameda — Lauren Do @ 6:02 am

We’ve reached the horrible part in our timeline when the president of the United States decides to snark about Time Magazine’s Person of the Year, a teenager in order to distract from all that inconvenient impeachment stuff:

  1. Just about every damn day he says or does something that would be a defining scandal of any — or rather EVERY — other administration. Sniping at a child, paying a 2MM fine for tax fraud are just the last two days. It is at once exhausting and profoundly depressing.

    • I’m sorry you are going through this, dave. Maybe some therapy?

      • A functioning adult in the Oval Office who can read above a 9th grade level will fix it.

    • President Trump signs order prohibiting anti-semitism on college campuses

      Apparently, it’s a nothingburger. https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2019/12/trump-antisemitism-executive-order-israel-judaism.html

It restates the federal government’s long-standing interpretation of Title VI to encompass some anti-Jewish bias. And it raises the faint possibility that, in some case down the road, a student’s sharp criticism of Israel may be used as evidence of anti-Semitic intent after he has been accused of targeting Jews because of their perceived race or nationality. Is this order red meat for Republicans who believe colleges are increasingly hostile to Jews? Probably. Will it quash the pro-Palestine movement on campuses or impose an unwanted classification on American Jews? Absolutely not.

      • How the fuck do you know what it will not quash?

      • This is probably aimed at squashing BDS.

How did those impending deals in Dec 2018, Feb 2019, April 2019, and August 2019 work out for us?

  4. It’s a good thing that most politicians are extremely high-minded and take the broader view of things. There’s only a very small chance that in the future any will look to Trump’s example as precedent, a how-to source, a good excuse, justification, etc.

    • You mean after his second term?
