If I knew then what I know now

Filed under: Alameda — Lauren Do @ 6:02 am

In response to a Peter Hegarty tweet and link to an article, Councilmember Malia Vella tweeted this:

Definitely not the most subtle of burns and I know that the EB Times has been problematic at times when it comes to reporting but Peter Hegarty is covering a lot of territory and, in general, tries really hard to get all the facts correct. I’ll note that he did update the piece with the press release in the tweet so there’s that.

Anyway, this was the part that I found particularly interesting:

This should make the next City Council meeting super awkward.

  1. At some level you have to admire the chutzpah that it takes to type this with a straight face and expect people to believe it:

“…..my intent was never to pressure Ms. Keimach into hiring one individual, but rather to encourage better communication regarding the process. I joined this meeting because members of the community had voiced their concern that certain candidates in the fire chief selection process were not receiving a fair shake.”

  2. The attack on the Fake News and the revisionism are to be expected, but the more interesting question today seems to be what is hinted at near towards the end of the post.

Not to be confused with questions of individual agency, much less guilt by association, is the fact that these two have patrons in common. Why has the apparent spat between the two gotten so out of hand (again, apparently) and played out in the open? Do not their patrons have an interest in squelching at least the public aspect of this apparent dispute?

  3. Reading her Twitter is a horrifying peek at various misguided and dangerous progressive policies like ending the gig economy in California, hating and taxing the rich and evil landlords, putting convicted felons on a jury of your “peers,” and the inevitable posting of a “f#%$kTrump video. I’m amazed she has time to extort and threaten the city manager. Which progressive policy is extortion?
