  1. This is not news, as it had previously been revealed by President Trump (see below) As usual, this is a “look over here” as the Inspector General prepares to release his report on FBI and DOJ spying.

    Piers Morgan

    @piersmorgan
‘In the early ’90s, I owed billions & billions of dollars, & nearly went under. Many of my friends went under. It was a very tough time.’
    – what @realDonaldTrump told me in 2008.
Why is everyone now ‘shocked’ his leaked tax returns confirm this?

    • > Mr. Trump was propelled to the presidency, in part, by a self-spun narrative of business success and of setbacks triumphantly overcome. He has attributed his first run of reversals and bankruptcies to the recession that took hold in 1990. But 10 years of tax information obtained by The New York Times paints a different, and far bleaker, picture of his deal-making abilities and financial condition.

  2. Reforms we need for a post Trump world:

    1) 10 years of complete financial disclosures, including tax returns for all related entities, for every elected official and Senate confirmed position.

    2) Put teeth behind a Contempt of Congress resolution. Judges can jail a person for contempt, such as for ignoring a subpoena. Congress needs that sort of power, with clear delineations, limits, etc

    3) Electoral college reform. That’s a big one, will require a Constitutional amendment, but we need to stop electing people who lose the popular vote. One simple way is to make the EC House based, eliminating the 2 extra votes each state gets from its Senators.

    4) Limit cabinet vacancies to 60 days without a Senate confirmed leader.

    Anyone suggest others?

  3. No way on #3, instead repeal the 19th Amendment.

    • Repeal a woman’s right to vote?

  4. This is somewhat old news repackaged with some new facts and details. Hopefully, this time around, someone can do something with this material. Although known pretty much in 2016, it was not a very well developed theme

    • From tnr.com: “The revelations about Trump’s taxes prove he was a grifter and a fraud, a braggart and a blowhard. In other words, he was the same man he is today.” Wasn’t this known already, pretty much?

      • We knew he was a con man and a fraud, but the taxes show how big a con man he is. That we didn’t know. And now he is the leader of the free world —— it’s hard to grasp, but he has used this con to get people to vote for him and follow him, and now protect him.

        • Exactly why the 19th should be repealed.

      • Only in Alameda (Mister Pissant) knows that it’s better to have a Joke like Obama trumping Trump.

        • Almost “only in Alameda”. A Republican relative from a Southern state that went over 60% for Trump emailed a few weeks ago: “…..Such a wonderful example to the youth of America. A real Profile in Courage. Come on Uncle Joe, make him a one termer.”

        • Uncle Joe would love to sniff your relative’s hair.
