Exercise your right

Filed under: Alameda — Lauren Do @ 6:06 am

I’m not even going to do a traditional Brian – Heart – Gut post today because I don’t want t jinx it.  But if you’re interesting in bragging rights you can most on down to Mike McMahon’s election prediction form and try your hand at local punditry.  Sometimes it’s really hard to put aside your personal preferences and try to logically figure out who will win and who will not.

A few things I do want to point out though before tomorrow’s election is I’ve seen some post on social media about an uninformed vote is worse than not voting (or something along those lines) and I’m utterly thankful for this tweet thread which goes through the history of the historic (and brutal) struggle for franchise.

So I’m not going to scream at you to go vote, but remind you that voting has never been easy for huge percentages of people who look a certain way and some people (coughrepublicancough) seem to still be making the ability to vote very difficult.

Anyway practice some self care between now and tomorrow night and if you do take advantage of your very sacred duty to vote, can I ask that you consider my short list of recommendations here?

  1. As I pointed out the predictive value of this guessing is not only as good if the those guessing are representative of who votes. Four years ago, influenced by BB readers the results guessed Marie Gilmore would beat Trish Spencer. By a 4 to 1, the guessing public had Gilmore winning. In addition, Oddie was the number one choice to finish first. We all know what happened as the low voter turnout stunned everyone. Will it happen again?

This year guessing population has a stronger Facebook representation as well as the addition of NextDoor could make it more representative, though I doubt many guessing participants are over the age of 55.

    Here is the 2014 recap:

I will post a summary of the guesses tomorrow afternoon so everyone will have something to do before the result are released.

  2. @Mike – I, for one, am over 55 (try 66), and I tried your game four years ago and again this year.
