National Horror Story: what Trumpism has wrought

Filed under: Alameda — Lauren Do @ 6:09 am

Within just a few days.

The MAGAbomber:

On the Internet and in real life, Cesar Sayoc was not shy about broadcasting his support for Donald Trump and his contempt for those the president might consider enemies.

He plastered stickers across his white van — supportive of Trump — alongside images of the president’s critics with red targets over their faces and a large decal that read “CNN sucks.” On Twitter, the 56-year-old trafficked conspiracy theories and ranted about liberal billionaire George Soros, former president Barack Obama, former secretary of state Hillary Clinton and others whose politics were out of line with his.

In Kentucky:

The shooting of a black man and woman at a Kentucky supermarket was being investigated as a possible hate crime, a federal prosecutor said on Friday.

Ed Harrell told the Louisville Courier Journal that he pulled out his pistol as Bush approached him in the parking lot and Bush told him not to shoot as “whites don’t kill whites.”

About 15 minutes before walking into the Kroger supermarket Bush tried to get into a predominantly black Baptist church, police said, citing surveillance video.

In Pittsburgh:

Early investigative details suggest a virulent anti-Semite needed only a few minutes, three pistols and an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle to carry out the deadliest attack on Jews in U.S. history, killing 11 people inside a Pittsburgh synagogue.

The dead include a 97-year-old woman, a husband and wife, and two brothers, all of whom were at Saturday-morning services inside Tree of Life synagogue when Robert Bowers allegedly burst in through an open door, screaming anti-Semitic slurs and shooting. The 46-year-old Pittsburgh resident is also accused of wounding six other people, including three police officers shot during a firefight, and faces a raft of assault, homicide and hate-crime charges.

“They’re committing genocide to my people,” the suspect told a SWAT officer after being shot and captured, according to a federal criminal complaint released Sunday. “I just want to kill Jews.”

Bowers’s house in the Baldwin neighborhood was searched, and investigators have begun to scour his social media feeds. These may include a since-deleted Gab account in which a user with Bowers’s name compared Jews to Satan and complained that Trump’s “Make America Great Again” movement cannot succeed so long as Jews “infest” the country.

  1. And the Iranians who deny the existence of Israel, and Louis Farrakhan who calls them “termites,”and Women’s March leader Linda Sarsour who praises PLO terrorists, and Hamas, and Hezbollah, and Boko Haram, and French terrorists, and Belgium terrorists, and other violent actors, like the Las Vegas shooter, and the Bernie Sanders supporter who shot Congresman Steve Scalise, and on and on and on…

The problems are well known, world-wide, and can only be exacerbated by blaming one side or another. Decent people need to find common ground.

    • Decency in the White House would be a good start.

      • Not going to happen until 2021. Plan B: us?

        • Why, you think Trump’s going to quit making us great again after the next election?

        • Is it great again yet, Jacky boy? I mean, how many more people have to die in racist attacks for your deplorable ass to be satisfied? Not that there’s ever a good time for your bullshit, but in the wake of this, I’d hope even you might have a bit of restraint. I guess not.

    • I’m all for civility and debate, but… there is nothing virtuous about finding common ground:

      • You get paid for posting that crap?

        • That was right civil of you, Jack… ;-(

      • I actually agree with Dave, it has to start with the White House and our need to perpetuate war all over the world for the betterment of our economy. It is sick and it started many Presidents ago.

        • While Trump has cited economic reasons for militarism lately, I’m not convinced that way is pursued for money. In terms of multiplier effects and overall economic impact, butter beats guns every time. Soundly.

It’s just a bankrupt mindset, thinking one checkers move ahead instead of 3 chess. The glory of a quick invasion supersedes the glory of long term wealth and stability in the minds of most leaders.
