  1. Further confirmation, as if it was ever needed, that evangelical voters care nothing at all about Christian values nor do they care a whit if their candidate displays them. All they really care about is that abortions for others are banned (they tend to make exceptions for themselves) and that they get to stomp on gay people.

  2. What do you think “Christian values” are, “dave”? Since you don’t seem to be a Christian, I would really like to know how you define them.

  3. The number one Christian value is that everyone is a sinner. Churches are not houses of saints, but hospitals for sinners. Repentance is possible for anyone.

  4. In my research of the history of southern Christian values, I was surprised to learn that so many southern ministers owned slaves prior to the Civil War. Many of them used the bible to support their views on their right to own slaves.

    • Karen, one of the best and most informative books that I’ve ever read on the US Civil war is the reminisce of a Lee artillery soldier: “Four Years Under Marse Robert”, Published in 1903, these are the recollections of Robert Stiles during his time as a Major in the Army of Northern Virginia during the Civil War. It’s really a mind opening and many times troublesome account of a person who actually served in that horrendous struggle.
