National Horror Story: such presidential

Filed under: Alameda — Lauren Do @ 6:02 am

  1. Honestly, some of the stuff said by anti housing folks isn’t all that different.

  2. He’s not presidential, he has no self-control in speech or tweets. But both in his speech and tweets you actually see what a racist bigot he really is. My family is from El Salvador, 1 is a doctor and 3 are dentist.

    • If George Carlin had said it, the media would be laughing their asses off! The press dismisses Trump for having an entertainment background. Then when he says something entertaining, they complain.
Face it America. You elected Archie Bunker President.

      • He doesn’t have an entertainment background. He never has. I watched the Apprentice for 1 season and the second season I quit after he treated people so bad.

  3. It’s all a game for him. He does this to get a reaction, and it usually happens when there is bad news in the White House — like the Michael Wolff book. Now instead of the talking about the book, we’re all talking about his racist comments.

  4. This is a shithole post. Open the link and the shithole Washington post wants money to read their shithole piece by a shithole nom de shit.

  5. Fascinating how people complain about paywalls when back in the day if you wanted the news you had to subscribe to a paper or buy one at a newsstand.

  6. Someone emailed to point me to this twitter thread which is a relevant inoculation to the inevitable defenses to referencing countries with largely Black and Brown residents as “shithole.”

  7. Remember the words to this song, from the 1957 musical?: “Life is alright in America…If you are white in America”

  8. When his wife du jour emigrated from Slovenia, that nation’s per capita GDP was less than 1/3 of the the US figure.

Hard to say exactly what Czechoslovakia’s was in 1976, when spouse #1 came, but it was probably about 1/10th on a Purchasing Power Parity basis.

I guess it depends on which shithole….

  9. I don’t know what countries he was referring to when he called them shitholes and neither do you. But if the shoe fits. He should have just said Hellholes. Heck, I’m old enough to remember Teddy Kennedy’s lying promise in the 1965 Immigration Reform Act, that we wouldn’t be overrun with poor African and Asian immigrants or ANYONE LIKELY to become a public charge. Heh, that’s what we get for listening to a murdering rapist.

Trump’s problem is that he says in public what we all say in private. So it’s just another fake news day including unfortunately on Lauren’s blog (which I adore). No stories on the US booming economy, riots in Iran or the details of the Bipartisan Immigration offer that Trump rejected. But those are national issues and not something for a local blog and affordable housing advocate. Nearer to home, yesterday, 11 January 2018, in the red state of California (ala Marx/Engels), in Sacramento, the good guys won as well. Communist pig Rob Bonta’s attempt to revoke Costa Hawkins, went down in flames just as bad as his attempt last year to revoke the Communist-ban on state employees. AB 1506 did not make it out of committee thanks to thousands of homeowners and landlords like me, that spent our day up in Sacramento or on the phones rallying opposition to this crazy proposal. So while most of the left was distracted with flim-flam yesterday, sane Californians were making a difference in Sacramento.

What does Costa Hawkins mean for Alamedans? It means that anywhere from 15-25% of the rental housing will stay on the market. Because if Costa Hawkins would ever be repealed, that’s what percentage of housing would disappear from the market. It means that property owners (single family homes/condos and buildings built after Feb 1995) can set the rent to whatever they want, because it’s their property. For you communists out there, and yes Bonta qualifies, see the link below, I remind you that life and liberty are secure only so long as the right to property is secure. You want low rent? Build more fricking housing! Keep your stinking hands off of my housing and stop trying to tell me what to charge. I don’t get to decide rental rates, the market does that.

Now Lauren is a landlord herself, so I suspect she has more than a vague notion about what Costa Hawkins entails. Nevertheless, I have yet to see a discussion on this topic, even though it renders Alameda Rent Stabilization moot, just as mifepristone and misoprostol render the issue of abortion moot in this day and age (a topic for another day).
The point being is the dog is distracted and running around chasing squirrels, while the caravan marches on. Trump, Trump, shitholes. Meanwhile, AB 1506 goes down in flames. Keep it up clowns, I’m really starting to get tired of winning. We have been winning so much.

So let me shed a little light on the housing issue. The city of Alameda has no clue how many Alameda property owners are renting their housing. They have no idea at all. For single family homes and condos, you don’t need a license to rent your house. You post it on Zillow or Hotpads or Craigslist, and you rent it. No city involvement at all.

So when the City Council began putting their fingers into “Rent Abatement”, they really had no clue what they were up against with Costa Hawkins or they pretended not to know. Their hands are tied. Alameda tried to restrict rent increases to 5%. Costa Hawkins supercedes that. They tried to tie usurious relocation assistance to stop evictions. Costa Hawkins over rules that as well. The only thing the City Council achieved was to give tenants renting single family homes/condos and new buildings, a false sense of security. Or to put it in the crude way that Trump would say, “They lied to your ass, fool.”

Landlords under Costa Hawkins protection (and that is a significant portion of Alameda Housing) can charge WHATEVER RENT they want. If they want to raise the rent 200%, the city can not legally stop them. If they do not want to pay the ridiculous and usurious relocation assistance, they can simply raise the rent to the level where the tenant SELF EVICTS. No relocation assistance in that event as well.

So keep on talking about shitholes. We’re loving it.
