That’s what she said

C’mon Alameda, really?

From East Bay Times:

Graffiti described by school district officials as anti-Semitic was discovered at Edison Elementary School over the weekend, less than a month after parents gathered on the campus to talk about ways they can challenge messages that denigrate Jews and other groups.

The graffiti found Saturday referenced Adolf Hitler, according to Sean McPhetridge, the superintendent of the Alameda Unified School District.

Police are not classifying the incident as a hate crime, however, and said the message repeated dialogue that an actor said in the popular television show, “The Office.”

“It was a line said by the star of the series to one of his employees during season 6 episode 25,” Alameda police Lt. Hoshmand Durani said via e-mail. “It’s readily available on YouTube. Our case is closed and there’s no further police follow-up.”

So, I’m on the side of “not a hate crime” but a really stupid thing to do.  Particularly since it was directed at a kid in the neighborhood.

If anyone is wondering what the line is, I believe it’s this one:

Like, say it to your friend when you’re taking the piss out on one another but let’s not chalk it on an elementary school that is already on edge from previous bias related incidents, ‘kay?

  1. Agree.

  2. Agree too, but the Edison graffitist is probably not reading this.

  3. Rebellious kids in every school in the United States have been incorporating swastikas and Hitler into their graffiti since the end of World War 2. It is one of the first things they learn to do which will shock people, 70 year old schoolyard prank…yawn.

  4. “…challenge messages that denigrate Jews and other groups.”
Just out of curiosity what other groups have been denigrated?
