At least you used to have your health care

Filed under: Alameda — Lauren Do @ 6:05 am

I’m pretty livid about yesterday’s national news.

So I guess it won’t really matter if Alamedans actually have access to Alameda Hospital anymore, since 24 million people Americans will eventually lose their health coverage if this bill successfully makes its way through the Senate.

Folks with pre-existing conditions and folks with pre-existing conditions you never knew were pre-existing conditions, be prepared to be denied coverage because the law will no longer protect you.  But MAGA or something, right?

I hope every single angry person, regardless of party affiliation, shuts down any town hall or event held by any member of Congress that voted for a bill that I doubt anyone actually read.

As they say, partisanship is a hell of a drug where cutting taxes for the wealthy comes at the expense of the poor.

Donate to Planned Parenthood everyone.

  1. I fear this healthcare battle will be with us for years. The least bad option is Medicare for all, and that is both highly imperfect & a political impossibility.

This will be a very long & very ugly story.

    • “Medicare for all” would be like the VA system,.and look how well that is working out.

      • AKA better than having no medical coverage.

        • You mean–like in the states and counties where insurers no longer participate in the PPACA? From Kaiser Health News:

“Some States To Be Left With Few Or No ACA Options After Aetna’s Pullback

Media outlets report from Arizona, Iowa, Georgia, Florida, Pennsylvania and Texas on what Aetna’s exit from most health law marketplaces means for the states.

The Associated Press: Insurers Continue To Abandon ACA Exchanges, Limiting Choice
Aetna will abandon Affordable Care Act insurance exchanges next year in more than two-thirds of the counties where it now sells the coverage, the latest in a string of defections by big insurers that will limit customer choice in many markets. Dwindling insurer participation is becoming a concern, especially for rural markets, in part because competition is supposed to help control insurance price hikes, and many carriers have already announced plans to seek increases of around 10 percent or more for 2017. (Murphy, 8/16)

Bloomberg: Insurer Exits From Obamacare Turn Few Choices Into None
The 400,000-population county southeast of Phoenix currently doesn’t have a single health insurer offering coverage next year on the Affordable Care Act’s exchanges, where Americans can shop for the insurance they’re required to have under the law. With the impending pullout of major health insurers — including Aetna Inc., UnitedHealth Group Inc., and Humana Inc. — Pinal County is just one place around the country where Americans will be left with few, if any, choices for coverage. (Tracer and Darie, 8/16)…[more]”

If there is no ACA insurance to buy in the state where you live, you don’t have medical coverage either.

      • My 74-year-old father gets his healthcare through the VA and it works pretty well, actually. Like everything else, fund it and staff it properly and it will work. But Republicans like to “starve the beast” y’know. How does THAT work out?

        Comment by Kristen — May 5, 2017 @ 10:09 pm

        • A little off topic, but…last I heard, funding for a VA clinic on Alameda Point was stalled in Congress. Is that true? Is there any updated news?

Of course whatever funding was stalled is probably no longer there.

  2. well at least republicans are trying there best to control population increases. its a little draconian to just let people die. statistically I believe people would die under this new proposal.

    • thier. not there.

      Comment by JohnP,trumpisnotmypresident. — May 5, 2017 @ 10:58 am

      • Yeah, JohnP. Better to donate to Planned Parenthood and kill them in the womb, like the Dems want. That’s the real population control.

        • The problem when you only get your information from Infowars and Breitbart is that you repeat ridiculous talking points that have no basis in reality.

          Comment by Lauren Do — May 5, 2017 @ 12:12 pm

        • …and what ridiculous talking points would those be?

          Comment by vigi — May 5, 2017 @ 12:19 pm

        • You seriously don’t know what Planned Parenthood does do you? In some areas it’s the ONLY option for health care services.

          Comment by Lauren Do — May 5, 2017 @ 12:24 pm

        • Right back at you. You SERIOUSLY don’t know what Planned Parenthood does, do you? No mammograms. No pre-natal services. What “health care services” are you talking about?

Name ONE area of the country where there is a Planned Parenthood but not a community health center [which will be getting the funds which now go to PP].
There are far more community health centers in the US than there are PPs.

You seriously need to look up some Susan B. Anthony List data or google Abby Johnson. Maybe watch a few David Daleiden videos.

The oldest fetal parts vendor in the USA with which PP does business is right here in Alameda: Advanced Bioscience Resources, 1516 Oak Street. Next to the Main Library and across the street from City Hall. A proud member of the Alameda Chamber of Commerce..and a star of the Planned Parenthood baby parts videos.

        • Dammit, I vacillated on who to donate to Planned Parenthood in honor of, I should have done it in honor of vigi.

  3. “I turned the volume off some time ago and have no idea what the House is even passing,” Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) said shortly before the House vote was scheduled.

“Like y’all, I’m still waiting to see if it’s a boy or a girl,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.). “Any bill that has been posted less than 24 hours, going to be debated three or four hours, not scored? Needs to be viewed with suspicion.”

    Comment by MP — May 5, 2017 @ 12:13 pm

  4. At least you could wait till something is passed before getting your tits in a knot.

    Comment by jack — May 5, 2017 @ 6:18 pm

    • The fact that any member of congress would vote for a bill they do not understand, nor know the cost of, says something very bad about our state of affairs, regardless of the outcome. And you have a potty mouth.

      Comment by Retiredteacher — May 5, 2017 @ 6:36 pm

      • “Balls in an uproar” better.

        Comment by jack — May 5, 2017 @ 8:10 pm

    • Pretty sure “tits in a knot” is considered a pre-existing condition and therefore allowable for insurance companies to either deny me coverage or hike up my rates if Trumpcare is allowed to pass.

      Comment by Lauren Do — May 5, 2017 @ 7:23 pm

      • No, those with “tits in a knot” will not be allowed in the country…and if already here will be rounded up and unknotted on their way out.

  5. I thought I’d never comment on this site again…..but…Vigi…you’re an awful person…Planned Parenthood is an organization that helps women …..

    Comment by J.E.A. — May 5, 2017 @ 7:32 pm

    • Planned Parenthood is a great organization. They help women eliminate future democrats.

      Comment by jac — May 5, 2017 @ 8:16 pm

    • …kill other women. [I’ll finish your sentence JEA]. Abortion is the only medical procedure which isn’t successful unless a human dies. First procedure I did on my first day of OB-Gyn in medical school. I may be an awful person but I do know what I’m talking about.

Worldwide, a tremendous number of elective abortions are done just for sex selection to eliminate girls. I question the sanity of women who support it.

DJT promised to fund PP if PP would stop doing abortions. PP declined his offer.

      Comment by vigi — May 8, 2017 @ 10:35 am

      • And, I question your sanity… can never put themselves in another woman’s shoes….rape….severely deformed child that will live everyday in pain…..and many other reasons… is a very personal thing but most of all Planned Parenthood does more good than you can wrap your mind around…

        Comment by J.E.A. — May 8, 2017 @ 2:38 pm

  6. Just stop…..this isn’t just about abortion….you’re a bitter person….let’s leave it at that….
