Ruby Bridges Elementary Fifth Graders are coming home from Science Camp today so I wanted to spend a little time to say, “thank you!” to all the many many many community members who opened up their hearts and wallets to help send these Fifth Graders to camp.

For those looking to get a glimpse of the joy that you have sponsored, check out Ruby Bridges PTA’s Facebook page here where photos are being uploaded and includes the requisite banana slug on nose photos.

So thank you to each and every Go Fund Me donor and everyone who passed along the link to their wider social network.

Thank you to Spin Pizza which hosted many Dine and Donate nights.

Thank you to all the Ruby Bridges families who contributed in big and little ways, giving as much as they could toward Science Camp.

Thank you to Nea PTSA, who was the first PTA on the island to give to Science Camp this year and opened the flood gate.

Thank you to Bay Farm PTSA who gave generously as well.

And a massive thank you to Edison PTA who closed the gap and more for Science Camp this year.   A “thank you” seems insufficient for the incredibly generosity toward Ruby Bridges that was extended from the Edison community.

Thank you!

  2. Thank you, Lauren, for bringing this to everyone’s attention. Such a worthy cause and so gratifying to see that Ruby Bridges was able to pull it off.

  3. I love love love the fact that other school communities pitched in to help. Sharing resources across neighborhood boundaries doesn’t have to be so hard. Let’s look for ways to make this easier….. (okay, paint me pro on taxes that support our schools. That shoe still fits)

  4. I was going to say the exact same thing that Jordan said — so heartwarming that other school PTA’s donated so generously to Ruby Bridges’ science camp. I would imagine that it is much easier to talk about being generous than actually doing it since parents on those PTAs have to work so hard to fundraise their $$. But the idea of sharing our PTA funds across the island between schools is just wonderful. I’ve started to hear chatter about trying to institute this so let’s make it happen!

  5. I’m so happy these kids got to go, and so proud to see how our island came together on this. Kudos to the RB parents like you Lauren who asked for the help that was needed and made this happen. Its hard work.
I do think people in our town want to help out and sometimes just need to know where the need is. We can all get better and working together to offer opportunities all the children across all schools.
