“This is exactly the problem”

Filed under: Alameda — Lauren Do @ 6:03 am

At the last City Council meeting, sorry it’s taken me so long to get to this, Trish Spencer had a super strange melt down at around 10:20 p.m.  It’s fairly typical for her to get cranky around the 10:30 p.m. mark it’s a whole other thing for her to decide — in the middle of an agenda item —  that the item is not important enough to continue and should be shoved to the end of the whole agenda.

Trish Spencer’s concern is that there are a ton of people waiting to speak on the FAAS item  and the Wells Fargo divestment item, which are Council Referrals as opposed to actual scheduled agenda items.  Now, I have my own issues with Council Referrals and I feel as though no action should be taken on Council Referrals and it should be only the City Council members taking a vote in order to move it to the regular agenda, but I am, unfortunately, not queen of the world so…

Instead of taking better care to manage time at the beginning of the meeting, instead you have this weirdness in the video the follows of Trish Spencer attempting to force an agenda item to the end of the entire meeting.

Watch here:

The best part of the video is the cryptic pronouncement by Trish Spencer that “This is exactly the problem” when City Council members are trying to decide if they want to have the meeting run long.  Remember if the City Council extends meetings past a certain time for a set number of meetings in a row they will have to add more City Council meetings because they clearly can’t get through an agenda efficiently.

But that’s not just where the craziness ends.  You can see in the next video that Jim Oddie has just stopped to take a breath and Trish Spencer is jumping in to move on to the next item as though it’s everyone else’s fault on the dais that the City Council is running long, again.

How mayoral.

  1. This is nothing. Just imagine the chaos and procedural disputes that will erupt when the Council commences impeachment proceedings against King Donald.

  2. council referrals belong at the end of the meetings, after the council has completed the regular agenda items. If you go to a meeting to speak on a referral you should understand that it will come at the conclusion of regular business.

  3. I haven’t watched the rest of the tape, but I’m guessing she wasn’t nearly as abrupt with audience members that applauded or went over their time (assuming they supported her view).
