#Resist

Filed under: Alameda — Lauren Do @ 6:01 am

On Sunday, there was an amazing outpouring of support for our Muslim community in light of the “Muslim Ban” Executive Order. Now before some Trump fan decides to take me to task for the term “Muslim Ban” I’m just going to leave this right here.

While some of us couldn’t make it out to the protest out at SFO, a lot of Alamedans turned up to the Solidarity event that was thrown together in like less than 48 hours

It was quite impressive and it felt good to be around people who felt the same way about the direction that the country is going in presently.  Some photos:

At the event I chatted with a former Ruby Bridges parent who was telling me that this event was the second in about two weeks that she had brought her children to.  While it’s sad that our children are being exposed to so much to be disappointed about and to resist against, on the other hand this new generation is learning — very quickly —  what it means to be active and pay attention.

At the rate that this administration is going, it might be time to invest in some high quality, multi-use protest signs.  I have a feeling protesting will be a way of life like play dates and soccer practice.

  1. It feels like the Reichstag is about to go up in smoke, with the Constitution shortly after….

    • Yes! You can bet your bottom dollar that when the new soviets take over, the constitution will be burned

  3. Of all the crazy incomprehensible shit that’s gone down lately with the immigration bans, the one that most flummoxes is the inclusion of green card holders, reportedly at Bannon’s insistence. They HAD to have known that addition would erupt an additional firestorm and would never pass a single Federal judge’s review. So why did they add that part?

All I can guess is that it was a trial balloon. It was put there to see if any Republicans would waver. It was put there to test the ease of revoking green cards in the future.

    • Thank you, Vigi. If I closed my eyes, I could have sworn that it was President Trump speaking. Some of the same congressional representatives applauding Clinton are now denouncing Trump for the same message on illegal immigration. As a child of immigrants, I agree that a nation without borders is not a sovereign nation.

  5. Trump’s Dodaves v happy campers tactic:

Trump has issued temporary immigration orders that ban citizens from the seven affected countries listed when the Obama administration passed the Visa Waiver Program Improvement and Terrorist Travel Prevention Act of 2015 after the November 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris.

“Hitler behavior” or “crazy incomprehensible shit” spake the Dodave half of the population. Trump’s Hitler behavior clearly isn’t making the Dodave half of the population people happy. Meanwhile, people who see Trump as a good leader are happy with the job he has done and feel he is looking out for the best interests of the country.

So we have half the country (The Dodaves) who see Trumpism as pure Hitler behavior coupled with incomprehensible shit and the docile other half who are mostly at least semi-satisfied with what he’s done so far.

This is exactly the negotiating position Trump wants to be in.

Trump’s initial immigration orders were too broad, and clearly targeted many of the wrong people (ie. the green card fiasco). Trump opens with a big first offer and negotiates back to something reasonable which will semi-satisfy most the population. If you don’t recognize the method, it looks crazy, random, and racist.

It’s all about controlling the issue. The biggest problem for Trump’s supporters on the right who want more immigration control than he can deliver while the hating Dodaves on the left want far less.

    So what does Trump do?

He pisses the left and right off equally, and equality of pissoffidness is better than what brought the flag up on the Reichstag.

  6. Taking bets on whether in 90 days or so we get a report that the ban and re-review of previously issued visas netted terrorists that the previous admin would have let through. 1.5M of them. At least.

    • I wasn’t that far off. Yesterday one of his mouthpieces cited a non-existent Bowling Green massacre in support of the executive order. Predictable unpredictability ?

      • Yeah, thank goodness it wasn’t a total massacre. BG did make 10 points.

        • It’s been a tough season so far for the Falcons. However, Sean Spicer is on the way to help with their sagging attendance numbers.

        • Maybe Sunday’s Falcons will burnish their namesake’s rep.
