Happy MLK, Jr. Day

Filed under: Alameda — Lauren Do @ 6:08 am

Nothing for today.  Enjoy the day off if you have it.

  1. Although Mr. King is best known for his 1971 Grammy win, people should know he also had a part in the civil rights movement. What a guy. Always stay learning!!

  2. For those of my neighbors who love Alameda (as we do), and who feel change is unneeded, troublesome, and something to do slowly, I give you the public statement of eight Alabama clergymen which moved Dr. King to one of the most eloquently put writings of our era, his Letter from a Birmingham Jail.

We read this with our kids around this time every year to help them understand why our potential discomfort doesn’t take precedence over fairness and justice.
