Lift every voice

Filed under: Alameda — Lauren Do @ 6:05 am

Every year Ruby Bridges Elementary School sends the Fifth Grade class to a wonderful sleepover Science Camp in Santa Cruz.  It’s a wonderful opportunity for any kid to experience, but for many of our Ruby Bridges students it’s their first opportunity to be away from their home.  The cost is around $250 per student but, as you can imagine, not all families at Ruby Bridges have the discretionary income to afford an extra $250.

For the eighth year in a row the staff and faculty at Ruby Bridges has organized this wonderful benefit concert to fundraise to send students to this camp.   Miss Ruby Bridges herself will be in attendance so this is a great opportunity to meet a civil rights icon right here in Alameda.  The Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir will be the main act with other great performances reflecting the diversity of Ruby Bridges Elementary School and Alameda in general.

Tickets are only $15 a piece and the event is a lot of fun and supports an amazing cause.  The concert is next Saturday, January 23, 2016 starting at 6pm.

For more information visit the website or Facebook.  Tickets can be purchased online or at the Ruby Bridges Elementary front office.  Also, if you’re feeling inclined, donations are welcome, easy to do and are tax deductible.   You can use your receipt from PayPal as proof of donation.

  1. Can you double check that paypal link? It gives me an “action cannot be completed” message.

  4. Our foster son, Mike Mintah, will be doing a drum performance at the concert. He is from Ghana and plays both the African and band drums and he is a fantastic musician. This concert is a wonderful experience and the proceeds all go to the 5th graders trip to science camp. Your attendance and/or donation goes directly to science education for many kids who would never get this experience and truly deserve to be enriched, just as kids with parents who can afford to purchase enrichment activities provide for their kids. You, too will be enriched by the experience of the fine voices of the Interfaith Gospel Choir. Thanks, Lauren for posting this.

  5. I went last year and it was just an amazing evening with lots of talent. After it was over they presented an award to Ruby Bridges and her acknowledgement was so inspirational. Clear and on point of the problems when she was a child and of today.
