Who run the world?

Filed under: Alameda, Election — Tags: — Lauren Do @ 6:04 am

Beyonce knows!

A few races I’m watching closely.  The Alameda mayoral one, of course.  We have an interesting situation where both candidates are females, a match-up that hasn’t existed in Alameda in probably ever.

The other must watch race is the Oakland mayoral election.  RCV is especially interesting because of how Don Perata, who would have won in a traditional match up four years ago, was edged out by Jean Quan and the anybody but Perata campaign.  This year the front runners are (mostly) female: Jean Quan, Rebecca Kaplan, and Libby Schaaf.  But I’m going to watch because I want to see where Peter Liu ends up.   Did you know he was featured on Jimmy Kimmel?   The full read of his position on the digital divide is pretty hilarious as well.

Oh I meant to snarkily point out that despite Trish Spencer, and her supporters, trotting out the fact that Trish Spencer’s daughter is going to Harvard as though it is a valid campaign platform Marie Gilmore’s progeny also is attending a top tier school (coughstanfordcough) but yet has not trotted her kid out as talking point.

Also, in case you missed in, John Knox White posted about the Alameda Sun’s correction that they had run a letter with attribution to someone who did not send the letter in.  Now it may have been that the Alameda Sun tacked on the title for the letter writer and that there are two Cathy Conleys in Alameda, but embarrassing nonetheless as the Alameda Sun purports to actually contact and confirm that their letters come from actual real people.  In fact the Cathy Conley referenced in that letter asked that this message be circulated:

On Thursday, October 30, 2014, the Alameda Sun published a letter from Cathy Conley, Past President, City of Alameda Democratic Club. I did not write that letter, authorize it to be written or submit it to the Alameda Sun. The Alameda Sun has apologized and is issuing a retraction. My apologies to anyone who felt that this letter represented the City of Alameda Democratic Club.

Sincerely,
Cathy Conley

  1. Accepting predictions the rest of the day in the Election 2014 contest. http://goo.gl/forms/Lk6gyWG78r If making predictions/guesses/wishes is not your cup of tea, just make sure to vote. Walk that vote by mail ballot to your poll https://www.acgov.org/alco_ssl_app/rov/voter_info/voter_profile.jsp?formLanguage=E or take that walk. If you do not vote you cannot complain.

50 entries so far. If I get 75 or entries, the best prediction gets coffee on me. Over 100 entries, breakfast or lunch at an Alamedan eatery.

    I will post a summary of the guesses/predictions/wishes between 7:30pm and 8:00pm.

First results usually get posted between 8:05 and 8:15pm representing the count of vote by mail ballots received, verified and tabulated. If history holds true, whoever is ahead at the first release will stay ahead. After the first release, there will be a lot of waiting but at least two West End restaurants will be selling a lot of drinks as the campaign parties wait for release of precinct results. The precinct results usually start to be released for Alameda around 9:15 with additional results every 45 minutes or so. It could be a long night for City Council candidates if my Election 2014 contest predictions are any indication. In fact if any race is within 100 votes, then candidates will have to wait until next week to find out who won as the Registrar of Voters will have to tabulate all the vote by mail ballots received at the polls.

You can get results here http://www.acgov.org/rov/current_election/226/index.htm or just wait for the tweets or Facebook posts from us political junkies/news outlets. As always I will be providing in depth numerical analysis ( can you tell this is like for Christmas for me waiting to see what presents are under the tree).

  2. Oakland Mayor race: It’s kinda amazing that, of all the people running, Peter Liu is the only Asian alternative to Jean Quan.

Someone needed Matarrese signs , one is gone , wondering if our fire dept is at it again?
    Desperation !
    Why ?
Nothing will change never had , never will .

  7. That I wasted my power of incumbency and did not run a vigorous campaign. Therefore, I am losing in my election.

  8. Sorry Mr. McMahon, Alamedan will have to remember you fulfill all your obligations and some more.
Now you will be able to have a life , till the next one .

What bother me it’s that back stabbing the lobbyist are resorting to , this will be a very heavy loss for the Democrats across the Country , I said it before , there was no United Front , I seriously doubt the Democrat will keep that landslide majority all the way to DC, next US President unless Mrs Clinton run will be hot head Republican.

  9. it’s early Mike. The returns are not returning with any expedience. surprised that you would rank third yet bond is passing, but it is only absentee ballots and about 150 vote difference. Marie, 50% plus one!

You are all a total failure.

Look like all the money you wasted trashing Mr Matarrese paid off your nastiness Got Him elected …….
If I was a Democrat candidate I would use another group for the next election , you failed miserably .
Let see how well you did across the Country , To the delight of the GOP you handed them full control .
Aside of loosing the election , your nastiness had 2 other major effect:
You turned away a lot of voters , by itself this is a failure , they were and are discussed by your methods .
By association actual voter also voted against measure or bond which actually were a benefit to the majority of Citizen .

Nowhere at any time anyone has demonstrated such high level of self destruction, aside of Scapa flow in Scotland when the German scuttle what was left of their fleet fleet after the War ten battleships, five battle cruisers, five cruisers and 32 destroyers .
The Democratic party is sinking like a colander in the storm.
