Remember how about a year ago when the Alameda Landing project came before the Planning Board to update the Board on their progress and one of the slides had indicated that Panda Express was going to be a retailer?
Then later the folks from Catellus said don’t pay attention to those labels those are just people we’re talking to but have yet to be confirmed.
So, turns out, now Panda Express is a confirmed retailer for Alameda Landing.
Before people get into a hissy fit about Panda Express, I asked a car full of kids what they thought about Panda Express. The kids all gave Panda Express an enthusiastic thumbs up. Reviews included “I like the meat” and “yeah, the meat tastes good.” As well as endorsements about the tastiness of the noodles and rice. I will say one thing for Panda Express, they do give back in the form of nice fundraisers for schools. And they have a panda in their logo and you can’t really go wrong with pandas.
However it’s this space H1 that is “in negotiation” that I’m super curious about It’s anchors one of the four corners in the Alameda Landing main drag and will be the largest of the four corners that has the outdoor seating.
If it is a Chipotle my children will be very happy. And if you’ve ever been to Chipotle on any day of the week around dinner time, you’ll know that Alameda could totally support another one.
In better epicurean news, last night on my walk I noticed a sign for a pho shop opening up in the old Ceasers Pizza space at the shopping center at the corner of Webster and Central.

I have only been to Panda Express twice and to be honest they were not great good experiences. The first time the rice was cold and dry. The second time the place was just sort of dirty. The table didn’t look like it had been washed. I am sure that there are people who really like it.
I would love to see a Chipotle. With a Chipotle, the barbeque place, and the 2 Subways we already have on the West End I am happy. I could care less about the In-N-Out. They do also have a fairly new Sushi place at Marina Village. Although we don’t need anymore pizza places Denise Sheldon is back East right now and talking about how great the pizza is…Zachary’s Chicago Pizza in Berkley is really good.

A Chipotle would be nice and it would be nice if we could get a West Elm store and a Urban Outfitters. That would take the shopping center up a notch.
