Walk the crosswalk

It appears that the crosswalk slated for Stargell at Webster Street is moving forward.   At Monday night’s Planning Board meeting, City Staff announced that CalTrans has given preliminary approval for this plan and it will come before the Planning Board in January:

I know the rendering sucks, but you can kind of get an idea of how the intersection will look.  There will be a “Stop Here on Red” sign and warning signs in advance of that turn indicating that people may have to stop.

This preliminary approval by CalTrans is the really the final piece in getting the remnant parcel actually built as one of the conditions for the approval of the drive-thru lane and operating hours was the design and construction of this crosswalk.   Of course there is still the whole getting through the Planning Board thing, I know there was a secondary preferred option, but it appears that, for some reason, that was not brought to CalTrans for consideration, so this is the only design that is up for consideration.

  1. I know what people will say already, but Bayport is not or ever will be a walled off community. But Stargell Way will become the main street to get to the base. They still have to build the other side of it but it is planned to be much like Atlantic. There are already cars speeding down it. They should have built a sound wall on that side of Bayport also. They also need to put up some stop lights for kids crossing the street to get to school. More and more people are using Stargell….although a lot from Oakland or the other side of the Island don’t know about it yet. Alameda Landing will change all that.
