Changing of the guard

Tonight’s City Council meeting marks the first meeting for the new City Council, which looks very similar to the old City Council with the exception of the addition of Rob Bonta and now Marie Gilmore will be running the meetings as opposed to Beverly Johnson.

Interestingly enough, on the agenda before the ceremonial thanking of the outgoing Councilmembers and swearing in of the new Councilmembers is a whole packed agenda for the old City Council to take care of business before the new Council is sworn in.    Nothing too exciting other than the extension of MOUs between the City and a few bargaining units.

But in honor of the swearing in of the new City Council, I thought it would be a perfect time to acknowledge Mike McMahon’s super thorough post-mortem of the City Council and Mayor’s election.    Mike did an analysis where he compared all the City Council and Mayoral candidates and figured out who “won” a particular precinct between both races.

According to Mike M.’s analysis when all the top vote getters were compared against one another the majority of precincts were swooped up by Rob Bonta and Marie Gilmore.  Beverly Johnson, Frank Matarrese and Doug deHaan did not take the majority of votes for any of the precincts when comparing all City Council/Mayoral candidates, Lena Tam won four and surprisingly Marilyn Ezzy-Ashcraft collected the largest share of votes in three precincts and Jean Sweeney was the leader in one precinct.

Also if you want to check out which candidates your neighborhood voted for, you can check out the map to figure out your precinct number.  My precinct is a biggie: 305100 which covers a lot of territory.   Overall, fairly shabby turnout only 56.6% of registered voters, but the candidates of choice for my precinct was Marie Gilmore for Mayor, Lena Tam and Rob Bonta for City Council.
