Blogging Bayport Alameda

Busting five knots, wind whipping out my coat

File this one under debatable newsworthiness, last Monday or sometime over the last weekend, I’m too lazy to go back and check, David Howard over on the Action Alameda blog posted this about City Manager John Russo’s Facebook status.   To quickly provide some context, apparently John Russo along with the City Council went on a boat tour of the Estuary.

Evidently someone who has access to John Russo’s Facebook status page determined that there was something outrageous about John Russo’s status and quickly sent it to David Howard who also deemed it newsworthy and posted immediately about it.

And of course the commenters at Action Alameda had some things to say about it as well including someone who misunderstood former City Council candidate and former editor of the Alameda Journal Jeff Mitchell’s comment as implying that he was on the boat tour as well.

I’m not sure why Action Alameda found the Facebook posting newsworthy, perhaps they found the expletive shocking or the phrasing to be unbecoming of a City Manager, who knows why some folks get all worked up over some things, but what is clear is that apparently none of the commenters or even the author of Action Alameda’s blog is a fan of the brilliance of the Lonely Island.

If so they would have understood the fairly obvious pop culture reference, but at least John Russo’s Facebook friends did, and the last guy pretty much gave away the whole joke.

And everyone knows he was drinking Santana champ because it’s so crisp.  And speaking of Lonely Island they had a pretty hilarious bit at the Emmys last night.

  1. Not familiar with Lonely Island (still no cable) but you can tell by the wording it’s a cultural reference. Makes him sound a little dorky but otherwise, so what? He has teenage sons. It will do that to you. On the other hand, Lonely Island…hmmmm. Alameda’s an island and they say it’s lonely at the top. Maybe this indicates a deep, personal struggle with his responsibilities? No, I’m going with dorky. I’ll say one thing, though. One of his Facebook “friends” is out to get him.

  6. News flash for readers of Action Alameda: Jeff Mitchell was commenting – probably from Salinas, in cyberspace – on John Russo’s FB post. The Internet and participating in social media enable people like Jeff Mitchell to comment on someone else’s FB post from far away, even as far away as Salinas or New York City…

Apparently some people have nothing better to do than to focus on the irrelevant.

  7. Adam — yes, I did finish last. I’m proud of my run and the open government ideals I based my platform on. But let’s not forget that you finished second to last you old-woman-assaulting f-ing silly twit. And, while you may be new to this inter-webby thing, others are not. It turns out that you can read and respond to these blogs from pert near anywhere in this great nation of ours. There’s rumors you can even get online from places in Canada and Mexico, too. Amazing. Scared any other seniors lately. sport?

  8. Jeff, you’ll be happy to know that our violent crimes for the Webster Street fair were way down this year. Actually there were none, and no I didn’t see Adam anywhere on Webster.

  9. Jeff- say ideals again. It makes me laugh. Say it while waving your Suncal check. Say it while you explain why you got fired from the Journal. Say it while you explain how you’re a Master Political Consultant. Say it while you explain why you fled to Salinas. Say it while you explain how I beat you in the City Council race. Then kiss my ass.

  10. Thanks for printing it, Lauren, but please actually READ my post on action Alameda above! We have City staff & council NOT obeying the rules once again! A Formally-Noticed-On-City-Letterhead open to the public City Council Meeting, even if it’s on a boat, should have recorded minutes available to the public. And people wonder how these alleged behind closed doors back room deals w/developers get done? Could be, they’re right in plain sight all along! Russo was asked by ACT if there would be said minutes, after the above was published. He indicated there would NOT be any. Why not?

  11. Vigi, the appropriate question would be “Mr. Russo, did the outing on the boat fall under the ageis of the Brown Act? If not, why not? If so, was it properly noticed, minutes kept, etc.?

  12. No need for cable or YouTube, actually — this video first aired on “Saturday Night Live,” broadcast on the good ol’ airwaves of NBC.

  14. Adam: you’re just pathetic and sad. Go attack a helpless senior and when APD takes you into custody — like they should have the first time — you’ll get to experience county jail from the inside. It’s a place that I’m sure you’re going to love.

  15. LAUREN! Make Jeff stop being such a doody-head!
