Starting the celebrating early today, our family has a traditional New Year’s Eve pig-out which seems to start earlier and earlier every year on New Year’s Eve. The basic premise is that each individual family member gets to pick whatever food items (plural is key) that they want to eat and have free reign to pig out on that food all day long. Sharing is, of course, encouraged and recommended.
We try to stay as local as possible but exceptions are made for Zachary’s Pizza and Bakesale Betty’s Fried Chicken Sandwich. I’ll be putting in my annual New Year Pig Out order at Katsu as usual, but the deep fried chicken wings are still a toss up between a few places.
I have to say though, this New Year is starting off pretty auspiciously so far and I’m hopeful that it will continue to be a great year for Alameda in general.
Happy New Year everyone!
Be careful what you wish for, looks like you’re getting it. Let the reign of the Three Stooges commence! Nice how they vote as a block so we don’t don’t have to check our score cards. One thing we can agree on, 2011 can’t be worse than 2010, can it? At least it’s not an election year.

I’d refill my prescription but I’m fresh out of health insurance.

Could you be specific about your definition of “a great year for Alameda?”
So far it’s looking like it’s going to be a great year for a small minority of between 15-36% of smug Alamedans and a disaster for the majority of us.
Happy New Year!

Amazing how one can always guess it’s a comment from Adam before one gets to the name. Such great negativity must be really a burden. Happy New Year.

Happy New Year indeed !!
San Francisco WINS the 34th America’s Cup!!
This is a big deal for Alameda, folks, a real big deal. Even if the racers never set foot on our island, this will be great for our maritime business community… which is quite substantial in Alameda.

Woo hoo! And they’re going to race around the bay. Get your picnic baskets ready.

No matter what the doom and gloom crowd have to say, I believe we now have an opportunity to go forward as a community, find common ground on which to build a good, sensible future for Alameda, and learn to compromise and get along. I am optimistic that we can do this. I am also very glad that so many of our Alameda folks are “engaged in the civic life” of our City – yes, even those with whom I disagree. In Bell, only about 700 people even bothered to vote; our vote percentage this last election was higher than the County average. Something to build on and be a bit proud of.

#9: Hear, hear! I’m with Kate and others who believe in making progress towards community-wide goals. Now that we are free of divisive influences (SunCal, Highsmith, Gallant) 2011 is looking pretty positive.
And remember, Denise, if the Republicans don’t cause a train wreck in Congress you will have a much easier time of it in 2014. (We’re hanging onto Cal COBRA for now, so I think we understand what you are up against.)

NOOO Don’t you people understand what the America’s Cup in SF means?! TRAFFIC *dun dun dun* and PEOPLE NOT FROM ALAMEDA WILL BE COMING TO ALAMEDA!!!!!!!!! *SHRIEK*

I for one am glad ICM is gone, hopefully the new one hired knows whats up and isn’t an “I”. Or alameda goes to a strong-mayor type of government, which would be awesome just to see the NIMBYs get their sand in their vagina when Marie Gilmore (OMG A BLACK LADY) doesn’t conform to their idealistic vision of Alameda.

Then I guess your majority should gotten their lazy bodies to the polls and voted. Until then, we win. I am looking forward to the progress that will be made by whatever you want to call the awesome slate I voted for.

Two things, number one its so nice to listen to Denise and all the cry babies wine on and on about how terrible life will now be because they lost the election.
and the secound and most important is Bake Sale Bettys Fried Chicken Sandwhich, its the BOMB.

Bob: you are insinuating that Gilmore’s detractors oppose her because she’s black. I’ve never heard any such thing, and whether they’re right or wrong, they have a number of well-articulated reasons why they didn’t support her. Smearing them with accusations of racism only serves to further poison the political climate on the island, and ultimately reflects very badly on you.

it is just interesting to see that in Alameda, a town historically known for racism (see the police logs from a few years back) the people who are attacked with the most vitriol by the (mostly white) NIBMY cabal are african- (Marie Gilmore), chinese-american (Lena Tam), and filipino-american (bonta)- not to mention the vitriol spouted at Ms. Do (vietnamese-american) by other NIMBYers
