Not much to say as I am in Long Weekend mode.  Race, Parade, Jubilee, Fireworks, you name it, it’s happening in Alameda tomorrow.

Although, I’ve always wondered where folks would say the best place to view fireworks in Alameda is.   Last year, we thought to try out Alameda Point near Hangar One, but it was a little, um, hairy, so we ended up back at the park near Ruby Bridges which actually has a nice-ish view of the Jack London fireworks, so we’ll probably do that again.

I guess the Hornet would be a good spot, but that isn’t free, but it sounds like it will be quite fun with the live bands and all.

Happy Independence Day everyone!

  1. Back in the day, you could go on the base (now called Alameda Point) aaaaallllllllllll the way to the end of the airport landing strip. People would sit in their trunks, on flatbeds and once I rode my bike with a couple friends. You are right on the Estuary so it’s cold, but the view is spectacular.
Besides that, in the B.V.s you could go on the roof or the top of the staircase of building 16 (where that spiked/covered staircase is now) and have a great view.
Lastly, the view by the Encinal Yacht Club is pretty cool. The view from the top of those warehouses by the Insane Asylum (so I’ve heard) is pretty nice too.

  2. Next time move a block down Webster. Most of the dignitaries get off at the reviewing stand so that they can, well, review, and hand out the trophies. Many of the contingents also do a nice performance in front of the review stand.
